Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is Flash File?

In mobile phone software repair, flash file is any compiled application or group of applications and other programable software and files that can be flashed on mobile phones using specific flash tool or command lines via terminal or windows PC command prompt. While flash files can be compressed in any format, they are often compressed in .img, .bat and .bak formats.

  2. What is Firmware?

Firmware is any form of program, software or microcodes that is embedded within hardware devices so that they may operate effectively. Firmware can contain a software or series of softwares that control the functionalities of the hardware devices in which such firmware is embedded.

Firmware is mostly stored in non-volatile memory such as ROM or flash memory so that it may stay stored when the device is turned off and ready to function immediately the device is turned on.

  3. Can I Unbrick Using Firmware?

Yes. You may be able to unbrick your mobile phone using the appropriate firmware files, however, certain flash files may be required as a prerequisite before the unbrick process can be completed.

  4. What is the Difference Between Flash File and Firmware?

Firmware is a complete OS on its own compressed into one single installable file thus, it can contain all the softwares including applications, radio, kernels, baseband and all other components required for a device to fully function and operate effectively when it is flashed on a device.

Meanwhile, flash file can contain individual bits of a firmware, of which, each of the bits can be flashed separately into the device.

  5. What is Softbrick?

Softbrick is a temporal software problem that causes a mobile phone to continuously switch on and off itself. This phenomenon is also known as Boot Loop. And can be easily fixed by a hard reset or, in an extreme case, flashing appropriate firmware on the phone.

  6. What is Hardbrick?

Hardbrick is an extreme phase of a softbrick. In this phase, the phone becomes totally inoperable and nearly completely inaccessible. Except you have access to specific unbrick tools and unbrick files specific for that particular phone variant, it is impossible to fix a phone in a hard-bricked state.
